On October 13, over 30 CWA 1037 members at the Passaic County Board of Social Services (PCBSS) picketed and marched to the Passaic County Commissioners Meeting to demand a fair contract. The contract for PCBSS expired 21 months ago – the longest period workers have gone without a contract since 1996.
PCBSS held a multi-site lunchtime picket last month after a majority of workers signed petitions demanding management negotiate a new contract in good faith.
“As elected officials you are all responsible for ensuring that public services are provided to those in need,” Wanda Sawyer, PCBSS Shop Steward and 1037 Executive Board Vice President told the Commissioners, including Commissioner Rodney De Vore, who sits on the PCBSS Board. “But the public need is not met nor are services provided without us, the workers.”
PCBSS workers stand united in solidarity as they continue to fight for a fair contract.
