Workers at The Leaguers, Inc. held a mass Union meeting on Saturday, August 29 in Newark. For over two hours, workers of all job titles from more than 10 Leaguers, Inc. sites strategized, built solidarity, and—most importantly—brought energy needed to overcome management’s stonewalling tactics.

After nearly two years at the bargaining table and working under an expired contract, workers are tired of being ignored and have joined together to pressure management. It’s working — last month, management finally agreed to put its contract proposals in writing and allowed the Union to table at the annual in-service trainings before the school year. Workers are determined to keep that pressure on until management agrees to a fair contract and ceases all unfair labor practices.

Our community organizing partners at NJ Communities United worked closely with CWA Local 1037 bargaining and mobilization committee members to ensure the meeting was well attended and focused on using collective action to build and sustain worker power.
