CWA Local 1037 - 25 Years of Militancy!

Organizing Information

Organize Today!Over the past several years, CWA Local 1037 has organized hundreds of workers at private, non-profit companies throughout the State of New Jersey including the Arc of Essex County, Jersey City Employment & Training, Children’s Aid & Family Services, St. John’s Community Services, Bergen’s Promise and, most recently, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). The Local has also worked in partnership with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) to organize in-home child care providers and is currently organizing sponsors and respite providers who provide services to developmentally disabled adults through the State’s Department of Human Services.

Sponsors & Respite Providers Organizing with CWA Statewide
Sponsors and respite providers with the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) are organizing with CWA for a voice on the job. Sponsors came to CWA seeking a stronger voice in the decisions that affect them and the individuals they care for in their homes. Through organizing a strong Union, sponsors will be able to negotiate over their pay and benefits and win a fair contract.

The reasons providers have for organizing vary – pay, respect, benefits, constantly changing policies, more effective client advocacy – but one thing is clear, throughout the State, sponsors are coming together like never before to fight for improvements.

A majority of sponsors and respite providers have already signed cards to organize with CWA. Currently, they are mobilizing for recognition of CWA as their Union. If you are a sponsor or respite provider, be sure to sign the Recognition Petition (this petition is different from the cards) and return it to an Organizing Committee member or the CWA office as soon as possible.
