Local 1037 Members Join Women’s March on Washington

On January 21, 2017, two buses filled with over one hundred CWA Local 1037 members joined the historic Women’s March on Washington. CWAers joined together in solidarity with millions of women and allies around the world to call for protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our vibrant and diverse communities.

This was the first time CWA 1037 member Korynn Lassiter got on CWA bus for a rally. “I marched with my union because they didn’t hesitate to stand up for me as a woman,” she said. “I marched because whenever women gather for a cause the nation listens and after Saturday, the word was that our platform and our voices were heard!”

This Is Not A Moment, This Is A MOVEMENT

Many more of our CWA sisters and brothers joined the marches in Trenton, Asbury Park and New York City. Hundreds of thousands of people marched across the country to send a message to the new administration that women’s rights are human rights.

CWA 1037 Shop Steward Jessica Umstot said, “I’m glad to know my union is truly behind  me.  I hope that we use the momentum to really make ongoing changes to the current political climate.”

What may have started as a march is quickly becoming a movement. But there is a lot of work to do to fight back against a corporate agenda that has women and unions in its sights.

“I marched in solidarity with many women and men to support women’s rights and equality,” said CWA 1037 Shop Steward Ariana Uceta. “It was amazing to see the overwhelming amounts of supporters that shared the same beliefs and feelings towards such an important cause. Together we can make a difference!”

CWA has long been in the fight for justice, and will continue to be on the frontlines wherever our members, our families, our allies are in need. An injury to one is an injury to all!
